Many vendors reported an immediate impact in the wake
of the terrorist attacks in the US, affecting the tail end
of the quarter where business uncertainty delayed IT
purchasing.
IBM delivered a substantial number of Intel Servers to New Zealand Post during Q3 2001. This resulted in the vendor capturing number one position in the market from traditional leader Compaq.
The portable market remained very competitive in Q3 2001. Hewlett-Packard's growing presence in the retail notebook market began to have an impact on the established players in the space. Intel's BTO scheme also began to take off, seeing local assemblers grabbing more share of the New Zealand notebook market.
