Asia 2000 seminars focus on India's technology industry

A series of Asia 2000 business seminars, to be held next month, will focus on the development of the thriving IT and biotechnology sectors in India.
Technology is the fastest growing segment of Indian industry both in terms of production and exports. Software development and IT enabled services have emerged as a niche opportunity for India in the global context, while concerted effort in biotechnology research and development has brought India substantial dividends.
The seminars will be held in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch from 21 - 23 October.
The seminars, sponsored by HSBC and Singapore Airlines, will feature two notable speakers and, as well as an overview of the IT and biotechnology industries in India, will examine the opportunties for New Zealand businesses and research institutions to become involved in the Indian market.
The seminar speakers are Dr Vijay Chandru and V.G. Dheeshjith.
Dr Vijay Chandru is chairman and chief scientist for Strand Genomics Pvt Ltd and a professor at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) where he holds joint appointments as professor of Computer Science & Automation and Management Studies. He is also an honorary professor of the National Institute of Advanced Studies and the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research in India. He is a fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences.
V. G. Dheeshjith is Infosys Technologies Ltd's head of delivery for the Asia Pacific Region, focusing on the Australian, Asian and the Japanese markets.
