Award winning magazine launches new science title
Fresh from scooping the pools at the New Zealand magazine awards, Unlimited, New Zealand’s business magazine, is to launch a new title, Biotech Unlimited.
The new science-business title will start life as a 32-page supplement in the December edition of the popular business monthly.
“We’re hoping the supplement will soon develop into a stand-alone magazine. But in the meantime the 32-page, quarterly supplement will be a magazine-within-a-magazine,” says Unlimited publisher Vincent Heeringa.
Biotech Unlimited is supported by sponsorship from law firm Bell Gully, New Zealand’s leading business law firm and Industry NZ. The publication will focus on the business of bio-sciences in New Zealand.
Asked why Bell Gully is supporting the first year of Biotech Unlimited, Bell Gully chairman Matthew Cockram says, "Bell Gully has the expertise and experience to help NZ entrepreneurs turn innovation into successful businesses, and that includes biotech ventures. By supporting and contributing to Biotech Unlimited, we are playing our part in ensuring the future success of these new technologies and businesses."
Vincent Heeringa says, “We want to bring people, science and business together – a magazine is a great way to build a community. Without the tremendous support of the sponsors we could never make a start.”
The magazine will contain profiles of scientists, reviews of breakthrough New Zealand biotechnology, discussions on funding and finance, legal issues and global trends. It also contains a “cheat sheet”, a cartoonists guide to technical matters for non-scientists.
Unlimited Biotech is one of numerous biotechnology publications being launched around the world by Unlimited owner, IDG Communications. It runs biotech magazines, newspapers and web sites in the US and Europe and recently launched Australian Biotechnology News. Circulated in New Zealand, this weekly newspaper compliments the magazine format developed by Unlimited.
