Families At Ronald McDonald Houses Reap Rewards From Toner Cartridges

At the recent Ronald McDonald House Mid--winter Christmas Dinner in Auckland, the Toner Recycling Centre (TRC) presented three new park benches to Ronald McDonald House Charities -- one for each Ronald McDonald House in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

A key supporter of the charitable trust, TRC has been recycling printer cartridges for the past two years through a free programme aimed at helping preserve the environment by reducing cartridge waste. When companies or individuals give their cartridges to TRC they are rewarded with vouchers or, alternatively, they can donate their cartridge value to Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Ronald McDonald House Charities executive director, Sarah Hood, says: "As well as focusing on the environment, TRC has donated over $140,000 to our charity. The donation of the park benches is another wonderful show of their support."

Established in New Zealand in 1989, Ronald McDonald House Charities supports Ronald McDonald Houses, as well as other projects that help children lead happier healthier lives.

TRC manager, Jim Hawkins, says: "Ronald McDonald House Charities is a very worthwhile charity to support and approximately 30% of our customers choose to donate their cartridge value to them. The park benches are a tangible asset to the Houses and show the success of the programme."

The Houses are looking forward to putting the benches to good use, particularly in the warmer months.

The House managers say the park benches donated by TRC will be a wonderful addition, especially when spring arrives and parents want to spend time with their children outdoors.

With over two million cartridges sold in New Zealand annually there is plenty of room to expand the reach of the programme. For more information on the TRC programme call 0800 180 160.
