Protestors to Spit the Dummy
Protestors to Spit the Dummy
The first major demonstration of an intensive campaign is to be launched at Midday today (Monday 20). A lively and colorful protest highlighting the secrecy of vivisection in New Zealand will be targeting the pro-vivisection ANZCCART conference. The protest will be led by mock vivisectors in white coats and masks with dummies in their mouths, signifying the secrecy of the industry.
Protest location: Grand Chancellor Hotel, 161 Cashel St, Christchurch Date: Monday 18 August Time: Midday 2pm
The demonstration has been being organised by the Coalition against Vivisection comprising the National Anti Vivisection Campaign (NAVC), Save Animals From Exploitation (SAFE) and the Animal Rights Alliance (ARA).
"Animal Research in New Zealand is shrouded in secrecy. Even though most animal research is funded with public money, very few details are ever released. We are protesting to ensure the torture, mutilation and deprivation of over 260,000 animals is not quietly hidden away," says Gary Reese, a Spokesperson for the Coalition against Vivisection.

Animals in Research & Teaching was established in 1987. It
is a self-proclaimed advisory body that appears to primarily
justify and defend experimenting on live animals.
