Microsoft appoints consumer products country manager
Local growth powered by the New Zealand launch of Xbox and increased PC business have been major factors in the decision by Microsoft to appoint a Home & Entertainment Division (HED) country manager.
He is Wilf Robinson (34) who assumes national responsibility for PC software, games and hardware, Xbox and HED sales and marketing, reporting to the Asia Pacific regional director.
Mr Robinson says the new position has been created because of the steady growth in retail business in this country. Previously the New Zealand HED business was managed from Australia.
"Microsoft is keen to have someone on the ground here to lead the HED team. This move will empower us to make and carry out decisions locally and customers can expect more expedient decision-making processes.
"There is excellent growth for Microsoft here in New Zealand - our strong dollar has helped keep prices down and competition is fierce. Right now we are taking the opportunity to prepare ourselves for more growth as we move forward over the next three to five years."
Mr Robinson says Microsoft is very happy with the progress of its Xbox video games system and there are a number of new initiatives imminent in the consumer products area.
"We've got a new version of Microsoft Office to launch in October and there are some exciting new home networking products coming up. We're looking forward to some exciting times in the consumer market."
