Peace Awards Scholarships to Top Kiwi Students
- Peace remains committed to backing Kiwi education and ingenuity -
This afternoon Brian Peace, CEO of Peace Software, will announce the winners of the 2004 Peace Scholarships at a company meeting at the Peace Development Centre, Auckland.
The students are Wilson Fan, Harris Lin and Dharshana Ratnayak from the University of Auckland and Sam Fraser-Barraud from Auckland University of Technology.
Every year Peace awards scholarships to talented tertiary student across New Zealand. They each receive an initial cash reward of $2,500 and a guaranteed position at Peace to kick-start their careers. Throughout the scholarship year Peace liaison officers keep in close contact with each student, providing mentoring and networking opportunities to ensure the student’s smooth transition into the workforce.
Says University of Auckland student Wilson Fan, “I applied for the Peace scholarship because Peace is the largest software product developer in New Zealand and they have a really diverse and experienced team of IT professionals.”
“I was attracted to Peace because of its strong reputation within the local IT industry,” says Auckland Institute of Technology student Sam Fraser-Barraud. “People who work there always seem to rave about what a good employer Peace is, and how it’s a true technological leader. I’m also looking forward to the opportunity of trying different roles in a large software company the size of Peace.”
“Peace’s technology is very advanced,” says University of Auckland student Dharshana Ratnayake. “The main appeal for me is being able to apply what I’ve learnt in my degree to a highly complex product.”
Brian Peace says, “Peace has always enjoyed a close partnership with New Zealand’s tertiary institutions. New Zealand has an excellent education system and is gaining international recognition for producing smart thinkers and flexible problem solvers. That’s why we’re so committed to supporting excellence in tertiary studies through our Peace Scholarship Programme.”
