Food clean bill of health raises concerns

The Soil and Health Association of NZ is concerned the clean bill of health on New Zealands food that Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) is promoting today is not as it seems.

Co-chair of Soil&Health Steffan Browning said that the maximum residue limits that FSANZ use are based on an adult male not on the small children that are far more vulnerable to the pesticides and additives often found in NZ food.

As combinations of pesticides can cause more significant damage at lower levels than those accepted by FSANZ , Soil & Health want a full list of the toxins found by FSANZ in our food published, Mr Browning said, so consumers can make their own choice.

New Zealand is one of the most heavy users of pesticides and Soil & Healths journal Organic NZ will soon be running results of its own research Mr Browning added, Food Standards clean wash is superficial and the truth about pesticides must come out.
