Trans-Tasman joint venture appoints interim Chief Executive

ensis, the new joint venture between Australasia’s two largest forest research agencies, has appointed an interim Chief Executive. Dr Paul Cotterill, currently Chief of CSIRO Forest and Forest Products Division, has agreed to take the role until 31 December 2004, whilst a search is continued for a permanent CEO.

Forest Research Chief Executive, Bryce Heards says “Dr Cotterill’s science and commercial leadership skills will be hugely valuable in fast-tracking the consolidation, operation and growth of ensis. ”

Dr Cotterill will be assisted by Andrew Newman, previously of Forest Research, who has been appointed Chief Commercial Officer for ensis.

The joint venture commenced trading on July 1 2004. It employs 180 scientists and is a world scale entity in plantation forestry research and development. Dr Cotterill says “The depth and breadth of ensis mean that it is well positioned to engage globally as a strategic R&D partner and provide greatly enhanced research capabilities to regional customers. It will also deliver greater efficiencies in the utilisation of government funding on both sides of the Tasman.”

Dr Rick Ede will step into the role of Interim Chief of CSIRO Forest and Forest Products until the end of this year.
