Woosh strengthens Auckland network

Woosh Wireless is continuing the momentum of its Auckland network rollout with four new transmission sites going live this month.

The new sites are in Mt Eden and Belmont, while Manukau City gets two more sites. Together they bring more than 15,000 additional households and businesses into the Woosh coverage area.

Woosh Chief Executive Bob Smith says the company is continuing to get a good response from business and commercial customers keen to obtain the efficiency benefits that high-speed broadband offers.

“Building a robust network is a step-by-step exercise, but we are continuing to progress as fast as we can, given the many steps involved, identifying the sites negotiating leases, getting approvals, the physical installation and the technical testing and commissioning.“

“Progress is great. For example the two new sites in Manukau, bring the number of sites in the Manukau/South Auckland area to 18.

“In addition to the work on new sites we have been building the capacity of our existing sites to cover the increasing number of customers who are switching to our service.

“We are continually expanding and upgrading our network, software upgrades occur regularly” says Mr Smith.

He says the company’s rollout in Southland was also gaining momentum with a new site recently commissioned in Gore. In Southland the company has more than a dozen site applications proceeding through the planning stages.

The Woosh high-speed broadband network is now available in Wellington, Christchurch, Invercargill and Southland. Customers can roam between these cities using their Woosh modem and connection.
