Unisys Announces Support for Intel’s Complete Enterprise Portfolio
Unisys ES7000 servers to support latest Xeon MP platform, providing customers with ‘no compromise’ alternative to Unix/RISC
Unisys, a major participant
in today’s launch of the latest Intel® Xeon™ processor MP
platform, today announced it will offer the 64-bit Intel
Xeon processors MP on its line of Unisys ES7000 servers. By
integrating platform technologies from Intel into the
ES7000, Unisys will be able to offer customers a ‘no
compromise’ alternative to Unix/RISC-based systems.
Customers will also benefit from the unprecedented ability
to realise the performance improvements and cost benefits
associated with standardised data centre environments.
The new Intel platforms enhance application performance, improve management of large data sets, increase server uptime and lower utility costs. According to many industry analysts, these types of functionality improvements are causing more and more CIOs to consider moving toward fully standardised environments.
“Unisys server technology, combined with the new 64-bit Intel Xeon processor MP platform, is an important addition to the market segment – providing customers with a high-performance environment at an economical price,” said Phil Brace, general manager of Intel’s Enterprise Platform Marketing Group. “Together, Intel and Unisys are helping create an intelligent path for those customers of today’s predominantly 32-bit enterprise applications to migrate to the scalability and performance benefits of 64-bit enterprise computing.”
In addition to the 64-bit Intel Xeon processor MP platform – formerly codenamed Truland – Intel unveiled its Intel® Extended Memory 64 Technology that allows customers to more easily drive standards-based computing deeper into their data centres. Servers based on Truland will allow customers to migrate applications from 32-bit to 64-bit environments while delivering substantial price-performance improvements – especially compared to servers running expensive, proprietary RISC-based processing environments.
“Unisys is committed to accelerating the adoption of standards-based technologies by bringing unprecedented performance and reliability to Intel-based technologies,” said Brett Hodgson, Southern Regional Manager for Unisys New Zealand. “Through our close collaboration with Intel, Unisys is offering a no compromise alternative to Unix/RISC-based systems by delivering industrial-strength solutions based on industry standards. We will continue to drive the development of new platforms and management software to address the greatest concerns of IT managers and senior executives alike – establishing more efficient IT environments that support business growth.”
