UK visionary digital company on way to NZ

onedotzero, the UK visionary digital moving image company, is coming to New Zealand with the support of British Council New Zealand. During their two-week national tour, 21-31 July, they will present screenings and lead day-long symposiums alongside some of New Zealand's leading digital talent.

Established in 1997, onedotzero has brought together the world's best and most innovative talent in filmmaking, music video, motion graphics, computer gaming and club visuals and fused them together into something of a movement. This has been engineered through the onedotzero festival, a compelling exploration of new forms of moving image held annually at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London.

Fresh from the ninth onedotzero festival in the UK, Festival Director Shane Walter and company presenter Claire Cook will arrive in New Zealand on 21 July to work with British Council New Zealand and partners; The Christchurch Arts Festival, Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT), The Film Archive (Wellington), The Telecom 34th Wellington Film Festival and the Moving Image Centre (MIC) at Galatos in Auckland.

Screening programmes have been selected from the latest onedotzero London festival for premiere in New Zealand. Screenings of wavelength 05 and j-star 05 will take place * at the Christchurch Arts Festival as part of Animation Substation, 21 and 22 July * in Wellington as part of the Telecom 34th Wellington Film Festival, 24 and 26 July * in Auckland at MIC at Galatos on 29 and 30 July. wow+flutter 05 will screen in Auckland only.

A brief of the screening programmes is as follows:

wavelength 05 features the work of established, critically acclaimed music video and commercials directors alongside the work of up and coming new talent. This screening has an international focus of edgy experimentation and includes Directors cuts and unreleased promos.

j-star 05 is an annual round up of the best of moving image from Japan. It is an inspirational selection of live action, graphic driven music video, animation and motion-graphics from the world innovators in this field.

wow + flutter 05 (Auckland screening only) presents a compilation programme of graphic fuelled work from innovators in the fields of animation, graphics and abstract experimentation.

Over the years it has been recognised globally that the onedotzero festival showcases work that becomes the mainstream three or four years later. There are now over seventy annual international events that onedotzero either organises or is involved in. These take the diverse and innovative selection of work that is screened into an international arena.

British Council New Zealand connects aspirational young people with the best of contemporary UK. The onedotzero programme will bring a UK perspective to the digital moving image movement in New Zealand. Through the symposiums, New Zealand artists will be able to gain new insights into the technologies being used around the world, explore their own creative process and practice alongside onedotzero and continue to build the national network of contributors to this exciting creative industry.
