Wellington's award-winning Karori Wildlife Sanctuary will be staying open until 8pm over the Wellington Anniversary and Waitangi long weekends (Saturday 21 - Monday 23 Jan and Saturday 4 - Monday 6 February), allowing visitors a rare opportunity to enjoy the Sanctuary by twilight.

"Wellingtonians can round up their friends and family, pack a picnic, and spend the day exploring the Sanctuary. With over 34km of bushwalks, finding a quiet spot is easy, and with 3 extra hours to play with, visitors will have time to venture right into the furthest reaches of the Sanctuary." Says Alan Dicks, the Sanctuary's Marketing Coordinator.

"The birdlife is buzzing at the moment, and visitors should be able to easily see kaka, hihi (stichbird) and saddleback (tieke), as well as our recently-arrived tuatara."

The Sanctuary is 5 minutes from Lambton Quay, at the end of Waiapu Road, Karori (1st left past the tunnel). For more information, call (04) 920 9213 or visit www.sanctuary.org.nz
