What do the latest Hollywood hero and a Wellywood pigeon have in common? Well, for starters, they're both called Valiant.

The first ever kereru (New Zealand pigeon) chick to hatch at Karori Wildlife Sanctuary has been named after the plucky little animated wood pigeon who has become a big hit with cinema goers.

To celebrate, Roadshow Film Distributors has arranged a special screening of the movie VALIANT, with all ticket sales going directly to support conservation work at Karori Wildlife Sanctuary. The special screening of VALIANT will take place at 10:30am on Sunday 12 February at 10.30 am at Reading Cinema, Courtenay Central, Wellington. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for children (3-15yrs) and under 3s just $5, with a free Sanctuary boat trip and prize draw entry for each ticket purchased.

Places are limited so booking is essential. Tickets can be bought online at www.sanctuary.org.nz or by calling 920 9213.

VALIANT, an animated family comedy in cinemas now, tells the story of a little wood pigeon, Valiant, with big dreams. He, along with his misfit friends, joins the very elite Royal Homing Pigeon Service, and against all odds, triumphs where their much better qualified colleagues have failed. It is Valiant's determination that, together with an unbridled courage, turns a little country pigeon into an adventurer and, finally, a hero.

The voice cast features Ewan McGregor, Ricky Gervais, Tim Curry, John Cleese, John Hurt, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Laurie & Rik Mayall.
