Orcon releases new plans with faster speeds
Orcon Media Release - Orcon releases new plans, first ISP to offer faster speeds
After many weeks of working with Telecom on new broadband plans, Orcon is pleased to announce it is the first ISP to conclude its negotiations and start offering 3.5Mbit downloads and 512Kbit uploads. While the latest product offering falls short of the 7.6Mbit download speeds that we hope to see in the not too distant future, Orcon is excited about the 512Kbit upload speeds that our customers will have access to from the 2nd of April.
Orcon’s General Manager of Operations and Regulatory Affairs, Scott Bartlett says the new plans will be superior to Xtra’s offerings in every way, in some instances with 10 times more data, and 10 times cheaper excess charges.
“Orcon has been talking to Telecom for a long time about the need to increase the upload speeds on broadband, and we are thrilled that they (Telecom) have listened to our feedback and that of our customers. Orcon customers demand value and demand quality, which is why we have worked extremely hard to produce the most competitive broadband plans in New Zealand. Orcon’s data allowance is up to 10 times higher than Xtra’s and our auto-sense data rates 10 times cheaper.”
Orcon has introduced data allowances of up to 200 gigabytes, as well as continuing New Zealand’s only true flat-rate broadband plan, despite increase costs from Telecom as a result of recent changes to the backhaul data allowance; and our starter $29.95 has over 2000 megabytes of free data, as opposed to the 200 offered by Xtra.
“Yes we got stung with an increase in our costs as a result of the new agreement , but we believe the New Zealand public needs at least one ISP that is on their side, and that’s Orcon. In many instances we have reduced the price to our customers and provided MORE data, rather than passing along the new backhaul charges. In addition to this, we will not relinquish our goal of having no data allowances and no throttling of speeds, and while we can only offer this on a 256Kbit connection at the moment, Orcon will work hard to affect a sea change here.”
There has already been significant interest shown in the 3.5Mbit download, 512Kbit upload plan, and we have again listened to what customers have asked for and will be offering a $69.95 plan at these speeds; $10 cheaper than anyone else. Businesses that have suffered on the 128Kbit upload speed previously offered should be talking to Orcon now about getting their business connection running at full speed. Another success in our lobbying is that all of our plans on offer can be used for either residential or business lines, potentially saving businesses thousands of dollars a month.
“It was insane that businesses were forced to pay $2400 a month for a fast DSL connection with only 30 gigabytes of data; there was absolutely no need for that. Customers of Orcon can now get 200 gigabytes of data for only $299.95 or 60 gigabytes for only $149.95 per month. ANY and ALL businesses should be on the phones to Orcon (0508 JOIN US) now; we can save them money, provide security against bill shock and provide a service experience they probably haven’t had in the past” continued Mr. Bartlett.

Orcon has started taking orders for these new plans, with many Orcon customers getting free speed and data allowance upgrades.
“While having these exciting new plans with high data
allowances and low excess charges is great news, the real
difference an Orcon customer will notice is the quality of
service they receive, so any customer who is waiting long
periods of time to get through to the help desk, or isn’t
being treated like gold should be telling their current ISP
to ‘Shut the Jack up’ (from the Orcon marketing campaign)
and move to Orcon now!” concluded Bartlett.
Orcon has
sustained a high level of growth over the past 3 years to
become NZ’s 4th biggest ISP, and the largest ISP that is
100% New Zealand owned and operated. Previously best known
as a provider of wholesale internet and business
connections, Orcon has become a household name in New
Zealand.
