News Release
Asia Netcom Partner to Meet High Speed Networking Requirements at ICANN Conference
Delegates from 90 countries gather to discuss mission critical issues related to the ISP Industry; conference supported by state-of-the- art network connectivity through Asia Netcom and FX Networks
New Zealand, 21 March 2006 – Asia Netcom, a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Netcom (NYSE:CN, SEHK:0906) in partnership with FX Networks, an Internet Service Provider, announced today its joint sponsorship of the ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) conference in Wellington, New Zealand. The conference held during 27-31 March will address important issues facing the ISP industry today, including broadband adoption debate and Internet security.
Asia Netcom, together with FX Networks, is providing direct internet connectivity to all global participants at the conference. It is expected that more than 700 delegates from over 90 countries will attend this event chaired by Vint Cerf, an international ambassador for Google.
“Asia Netcom is proud to participate in this major international conference. We are taking keen interest in the development of broadband uptake in the New Zealand market. I believe affordable and high-speed broadband can transform the way people work. The concept of ‘connected anywhere’ no longer refers to the future. It is the reality that has been easily accessible through broadband,” said Deborah Homewood, Asia Netcom’s Vice President.
“It is the first ICANN conference in New Zealand and FX Networks is honoured to be able to assist ICANN. Through our partnership with Asia Netcom, we were able to participate in delivering an independent telecommunications network that met ICANN's requirements,” said Jamie Baddeley, FX Networks’ General Manager, Internet Services.
“We are pleased to be involved in the conference as it should help confirm directions and policies bolstering broadband capabilities in our country and overseas, ” added Baddeley.
Asia Netcom’s Internet Protocol Transit solution, which has been popular with the Australian and New Zealand ISPs, provides global connectivity to major Internet peering points and content providers throughout the globe.
