Teradata Delivers Linux for Enterprise-Class Data Warehouses

Teradata now runs on 64-bit SUSE Linux Enterprise providing open-source operating system and platform flexibility AUCKLAND, New Zealand – Teradata, a division of NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR), announced today that it has shipped an enhanced version of the Teradata database running on the 64-bit version of the SUSE Linux Enterprise from Novell.

It is available globally for enterprise-class data warehouses. Teradata now delivers the same enterprise-class scalability, availability and manageability with the 64-bit SUSE Linux Enterprise operating system, as with the Windows® operating system and its own UNIX operating system, UNIX MP-RAS.

Teradata selected Novell and its SUSE Linux Enterprise platform because it provides a full range of industry-leading Linux services to support large-scale enterprises. Novell provides a scalable and efficient solution for enterprise customers who are considering the move to an open-source operating system.

According to Beavis, Teradata’s parallel architecture and database design has stood the test of time as the only database on the market designed from its inception to run all processes in parallel. Scalability, availability, manageability and performance were built into the Teradata database from inception. It was the original scalable grid database technology. With more than a 20-year advantage over the newer data warehouse appliance vendors, Teradata delivers the most proven and mature solution in the market.

In addition to making 64-bit SUSE Linux Enterprise available for the database, Teradata already offers tools and utilities products that provide the load and access connectivity to Teradata user applications on both SUSE Linux Enterprise and Red Hat Linux.
