New Chief Executive For EECA

MEDIA RELEASE

New Chief Executive for the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) has today announced the appointment of Mike Underhill as Chief Executive.

Mr Underhill is currently the Chief Executive of WEL Networks, the Waikato-based electricity distribution company. He has spent more than 35 years in the gas and electricity sectors in New Zealand and overseas.

Announcing the appointment, EECA Chairman Mark Ford said: “We are delighted to welcome Mike to the Chief Executive’s role. Mike will bring valuable skills and experience to the position as EECA works with others to develop the final New Zealand Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy.

“EECA aims to improve the energy choices of all New Zealanders in business, in the home and in their transport decisions. Mike’s extensive knowledge will make a significant contribution to this process.”

EECA is the main body responsible for helping to deliver the Government’s extensive energy efficiency agenda. Its function is to encourage, promote and support energy efficiency, energy conservation and the use of renewable energy sources.

Mr Underhill said: “I am excited to have the opportunity to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy. New Zealand must achieve a balance between the supply and demand for energy. Energy efficiency does more than reduce demand. It also saves the customers money, reduces greenhouse gasses and saves investment in the supply of energy.”
