Modernisations Expand OASIS Open Source Suite

News Release

Advanced Modernisation Offerings Expand Unisys OASIS Open Source Suite

Unisys today announced four major enhancements to its Open and Secure Integrated Solutions (OASIS), the company’s portfolio of integrated, certified open source software suites. The four new offerings – Unisys OASIS Suites 2.0, Unisys OASIS Oracle Grid Accelerator, OASIS Enterprise Asset Modernisation, and OASIS UNIX to Linux Migration – enable clients to modernize their IT environments by bringing the economic advantages of open source into an enterprise-class computing environment.

These new offerings provide clients with a range of tools to monitor application infrastructure performance against defined service requirements, modernise existing enterprise IT assets, enable rapid migration of applications to Oracle 10g on Linux, and facilitate migration from UNIX to Linux environments.

In addition to expanding the Unisys OASIS suite announced in June 2006, the new solutions extend Unisys comprehensive suite of open source tools which help clients build a real-time infrastructure in which information technology directly and dynamically supports strategic business processes.

“By minimising risk and maximising the economic advantages of open source, Unisys OASIS can help transform innovation into measurable business impact for clients,” said Ali Shadman, vice president and general manager, Open Source Solutions, Systems and Technology, Unisys. ”The new Unisys OASIS offerings expand the range of options clients have to modernise their IT environments economically while protecting the investments they have made in their IT infrastructure over time. Clients can optimise the ‘now’ projects while focusing more budget on the ‘next’ projects that drive additional business value.”

The new Unisys OASIS offerings deliver the following benefits:

- OASIS Suites 2.0 adds capabilities for management and monitoring of the application runtime infrastructure using the Groundwork Professional series of products; improved transaction management using JBoss Transaction Service; hot deployment and backup of Java EE applications; and improved protection against web-borne application attacks;

- OASIS Oracle Grid Accelerator provides a proven, rapid, and complete solution for deploying Oracle 10g Real Application Clusters (RAC). A joint development effort between Unisys and Oracle, the OASIS Grid Accelerator can reduce costs by enabling even the largest Oracle databases to migrate in a matter of weeks, not months, from prior Oracle releases on UNIX platforms to Oracle 10g RAC running in the Linux environment on Unisys ES7000/one Enterprise Servers;

- OASIS Enterprise Asset Modernisation provides a set of critical services, software, and platforms designed to reduce risk and maximise the return for clients transforming legacy IT assets to a lower cost, more agile environment. Unisys and its ecosystem of alliance partners are working together to create a foundation for IBM mainframe customers to move to Linux with confidence while preserving the reliability, availability, scalability and security attributes of their mainframe environments;

- OASIS UNIX to Linux Migration encompasses services and best practices necessary to quickly, safely, and efficiently move a client’s data, applications, and servers from a proprietary or outdated Unix environment to a new open systems architecture. Capitalising on the flexibility and scalability of the Unisys ES7000/one Enterprise Server, this solution can deliver exceptional performance, scalability and dependability. It is available in versions designed for specific servers and migration of middleware, including Novell Netware.

Unisys Open Source Solutions: Improving Clients’ Visibility into Their Business
The Unisys 3D Visible Enterprise (3D-VE) approach drives Unisys open source solutions, giving clients visibility into the links among the four key dimensions of their business – strategy, process, applications and infrastructure – and enabling them to gauge impacts and costs that can block effective execution. Unisys consultants help clients identify the most critical business processes that can benefit from open source, and deploy applications and infrastructure using the best open source tools and Unisys services to realise key benefits of secure business operations: breakthrough customer service and satisfaction, improved competitive advantage, minimised risks, improved operational efficiency and more effective cost control. The Unisys 3D-VE approach gives clients a deep understanding of what's possible with technology, along with the critical capability to map it to business problems and solutions to drive tangible results.

“Unisys combination of services skills, software and enterprise server technology delivers a full solution lifecycle capability from design through implementation to complete support on a consistent worldwide basis,” said Mike Dooner, Asia Pacific Sales Director, Enterprise Servers Unisys. “The Unisys approach gives clients a singular advantage in capitalising on the freedom and economic advantages open source affords while continuing to leverage the value of their existing IT infrastructure.”
