New ACC Computer System In Place

New ACC Computer System In Place

The Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) has successfully completed a three year, $100 million project upgrading its computer systems.

"The new system, known internally as Eos, not only replaces ACC's legacy system but also provides a platform for significantly improving ACC's customer services in the future - for claimants, health providers and other stakeholders" said Graeme Osborne, General Manager, Information Management.

The project is one of the largest successful data migrations in New Zealand in the last decade, moving 4.5 million claimant and 25.5 million claim records.

At its peak the project involved 170 staff and deployment stretched over 6 months, in 5 waves, with negligible business down-time. The production systems reside on 22 servers (a mixture of Sun and Intel hardware), and the disaster recovery systems are as large again. Including development and test systems, more than 70 servers were deployed by the project.

A programme of change has been implemented over the three year period. These changes have included:

  • Replacing manual purchase ordering with system supported ordering

  • All claimant files are scanned and stored electronically in a document management system

  • Dual screens for all claims management staff

  • New web based workflow claimant management system.

"The project does not end here. We are committed to continuously improving the performance of Eos to ensure that ACC staff and other stakeholders benefit from world-class digital solutions to support the delivery of ACC's operational and strategic priorities", Mr Osborne added.
