MEDIA RELEASE

Canon Introduces a New Image Processor, DiG!C 4

Canon recently introduced its newly developed DiG!C 4 Image Processor into some of its new digital SLRs and high-end digital compact cameras. This new processor will allow photographers of all levels to achieve higher image quality, experience faster processing and responsiveness in any shooting situation, capture finer detail and achieve exceptional natural colour reproduction.

DiG!C 4 incorporates technologies that make photographing people easier and more accurate, offer enhanced movie shooting capabilities and improve noise reduction.

Photographing People Made Easy
Improved Face Detection technology
The precision and speed of Face Detection has been enhanced so that faces can quickly and easily be detected even if they are in profile or at an angle. Users can also select the new Face Detect Self Timer function which will automatically detect when a new face enters the frame, and then act as a trigger to take the photo. Perfect for group shots or self portraits, this ensures correct exposure for the faces.
Improved Motion Detection technology
The detection performance of tracking moving objects has been improved thanks to the increase in speed of Motion Detection technology. With the inclusion of a High ISO Auto feature, the appropriate ISO and shutter speed are automatically set according to the speed of the subject’s movement, allowing users to freeze the action and get clearer action shots.
New Servo AF feature
Servo AF is a new technology that forms part of the DiG!C 4 feature set, created to ensure continuous subject tracking and focus even if a subject is moving. This allows users to quickly capture the subject at the desired moment without needing to recompose the shot.
Intelligent Contrast Correction
The addition of Intelligent Contrast Correction enables users to correct the colour contrast of their shot either during shooting or after, without reducing the image quality. This allows you to automatically brighten up faces that are backlit making it easier to simply point and shoot in any lighting situation.

Enhanced Movie Shooting Capabilities
With DiG!C 4’s new movie codec, users can record for longer periods of time while still maintaining the same image quality. The new codec compresses the data size but not the image quality, allowing longer movie recording time using less memory.

Improved Noise Reduction Technology
DiG!C 4 achieves faster noise reduction signal processing, ensuring that image quality when shooting at high ISO speeds, has been improved.
