North Otago Wine Producer to Apply Origin System
MEDIA RELEASE
North Otago Wine Producer to Apply
Origin System
20-August, 2009
When the 2009 vintage wines from Kurow Estate Ltd appear on shelves from September, they will be among the first in the world to use a powerful scientific process to address a growing international concern over wine fraud and food safety. The origin of ten different wines will be independently and scientifically authenticated by Oritain Global Ltd. Customers will be able to use the Oritain system to track the wine back to the vineyard where the grapes were picked.
``Kurow Estate has invested heavily in premium production techniques and equipment. We grow and harvest our grapes entirely from the Waitaki and Hakataramea valleys. And, we bottle all of our wines ourselves. The authenticity of what’s in each bottle is something we must protect,’’ said Murray Turner, Kurow Estate General Manager. ``Our customers want to know that when they open a bottle of our wine, they’re getting the real thing. Oritain has developed a unique, tamper-proof system for verifying where a product comes from. We’re excited to be able to offer this to our customers.’’
``Kurow has been known for more than a hundred years for its abundant natural beauty and the soil's unique ability to produce magnificent fruit,’’ said Will Anglin, Chief Marketing Officer of Oritain Global. ``Every wine has a unique natural signature that comes from the water and soil where the grapes were grown. Oritain is pleased to offer Kurow Estate customers a scientifically authenticated product.’’
