First NZ-developed cloud computing service

News release
5 October 2009

Orcon launches NZ’s first locally-developed cloud computing service

Orcon, under its iSERVE brand, has launched New Zealand’s first locally-developed cloud computing service for small to medium-sized enterprises.

The new ground breaking product enables businesses to tap in to the benefits of cloud computing and gives them the flexibility of scaling computing requirements up and down ‘on demand’ in a cost-effective way.

Servers and storage can be created and removed instantaneously and customers only pay for the time they are in use says Orcon’s head of emerging business, Charlie Boyd, saving businesses money and time.

“Cloud computing can increase the capacity of data storage or add capabilities on the fly without the client needing to invest in new physical infrastructure,” Mr Boyd says.

“This means businesses can save money on IT costs and worry less about constant server updates and other computing issues. And because we are NZ developed and supported we can offer competitive pricing in comparison to international companies.”

Pricing starts at RRP $0.06 per hour per CPU and per 512MB of RAM.

Orcon will also be offering a new self-service virtual server product that operates in the same manner as a real server, whether it is a particular software programme or operating system.

The virtual server can be provisioned online by the client, in real time. Customers can sign up instantly with a credit card online to get the benefits of having their own equipment at a reduced cost.

The virtual server product has an entry price of RRP $99+GST per month for a Single CPU, 512Mb RAM/15GB storage/25GB traffic package.

iSERVE, acquired by Orcon in May 2009, was the country’s second largest specialty hosting business. It provides a range of hosting products including website hosting, dedicated or virtual server hosting, cloud computing services, domain name solutions and more.

Orcon CEO Scott Bartlett says iSERVE is at the forefront in offering innovative hosting services and has always had businesses in mind when developing products.

“Our new cloud computing and virtual server products are perfect for all businesses. One of the major selling points of this technology is lower costs and this will enable companies to focus their expenditure on delivering the goods and services that they specialise in.”
