Science New Zealand sorry to see West resignation

Chairman of Science New Zealand and CEO of NIWA, John Morgan, said he was sorry to hear today of the resignation of Dr Andrew West as CEO of AgResearch.

"Dr West has made a significant contribution to AgResearch in his 6 years as CEO of this globally respected Crown Research Institute. What I want to acknowledge, more particularly, is his part in advancing the status of science in New Zealand’s economic development.

“People in the pastoral sector were always aware of the crucial link between great science and export earnings, for example. Dr West has ensured that people beyond the pastoral sector also know that and, in doing so, been a leader in lifting wider appreciation of the very real practical value of science to New Zealand.

“Dr West has a wealth of experience and tremendous passion for science and its application to improve New Zealand. He is a past-Chairman of Science New Zealand and will be sorely missed from around our Board table. I am delighted to see that he will still be active in the science and technology field,” Mr Morgan said.
