Science & Innovation essential partners says Science New Zealand
The chairman of Science New Zealand, John Morgan, said today’s launch of the Ministry of Science & Innovation puts new energy and determination into the most critical partnership for New Zealand’s future.
Mr Morgan said:
“Science and innovation are essential partners in New Zealand’s success. Research, and its application in primary and manufacturing industry, have kept this small and distant country amongst the first world. It is the most critical partnership for New Zealand’s future.
“The Ministry’s name makes clear that the connection of science with innovation, be it in existing or as yet undreamt of areas, is the heart of its work, where it can be both facilitator and leader.
“Globally, science-based innovation is now recognised as a critical driver of economic, environmental and social wealth. This development offers huge potential for New Zealand because smart people with bold and ambitious ideas, backed by great science, can take on the world and win from right here.
“So it is exciting to see the new energy and determination amongst New Zealand’s business and science leaders to get more engaged with each other and to work together over the long term. We have long encouraged this because it will lead directly to better lives for New Zealanders, not least through more and better jobs and higher revenues for New Zealand’s businesses.
“Science New Zealand is committed to working with the Ministry and across the whole of government, with our industry colleagues and communities. A partnership approach will ensure that New Zealand maximises its benefits from our national science investment. “
