The Launch of ‘Looking Ahead: Science Education for the Twenty-First Century’

Tuesday 5 April from 4-6pm

The report Looking Ahead: Science Education for the Twenty-First Century will be launched at 4pm on Tuesday 5 April at the Liggins Institute in Auckland.

Professor Sir Peter Gluckman, the Prime Minister’s Chief Science Advisor, says:

“New Zealand has a well performing science education system although, as in other countries, there are concerning deficits for parts of the community. The changing nature of science and the changing role of science in society create potential ma¬jor challenges for all advanced societies in the coming decades. A forward-looking science education system is fundamental to our future success in an increasingly knowledge-based world. ‘Looking Ahead’ highlights some major challenges and opportunities and suggests areas where significant enhancement may be possible by closer interaction between the school and science communities.”

The launch will be broadcast live via the LENScience network and Internet. Hub sites have been set up at schools and universities to enable teachers from throughout New Zealand to participate in this event. A live-chat room will be provided to enable participants to take part in a Q&A session during the launch.
