Vets set to take over Hamilton
Close to
1000 veterinarians, veterinary nurses and industry delegates
from New Zealand and Australia will attend the New Zealand
Veterinary Association (NZVA) Conference starting on Tuesday
in Hamilton.
Delegates will learn more about leading edge veterinary science, find out what's happening within the profession and maintain key networks.
During the four day conference, participants will attend workshops by local and overseas experts, researchers and fellow veterinarians, including New Zealand's own Professor Jacqueline Rowarth, director of agriculture at Massey University.
Prof. Rowarth will discuss the future of sheep and beef cattle farming in New Zealand and the role veterinarians play.
Other speaker topics include global perspectives and economic realities for New Zealand farmers, animal welfare in the dairy industry, and exotic diseases and the vet's role on the farm.
"This Conference is the leading continuing education event for the New Zealand veterinary profession. It's also the largest multidisciplinary veterinary conference in New Zealand with 12 NZVA Special Interest Branches in attendance," says NZVA chief executive, Julie Hood.
"The theme for this year's conference is Back to the Future, plus; 2011 marks World Veterinary Year - celebrating 250 years of the veterinary profession working to improve animal and human health worldwide. So the conference will be a historic event celebrating the past, present and future of the veterinary profession."
The NZVA conference brings together a number of different themes and views around embracing challenges and the key role veterinarians play in society.
