ANZIAs open for entries

InternetNZ (Internet New Zealand Inc) and .au Domain Administration (auDA) are proud to announce The 2011 Australia and New Zealand Internet Awards (ANZIAs) have opened for entries today.

The ANZIAs are open to businesses, organisations and individuals across all sectors that use the Internet to develop innovative and creative ways to reach customers, provide a service or improve the online experiences of Australians and New Zealanders.

ANZIA winners receive recognition as industry leaders, receive public and industry exposure, and gain positive media coverage and networking opportunities. Eligible entrants are also in the running for a $2500 cash prize.

Entries are invited in six categories:

• Security and privacy

• Internet access & digital skills

• Innovation

• Information

• Diversity

• IPv6

InternetNZ Chief Executive Vikram Kumar says “The Internet is a wonderful platform for innovation, delivering real value to people and businesses. The ANZIAs is a great way to know about these and to celebrate the achievements of passionate individuals and organisations.”

auDA CEO Chris Disspain notes the opportunity the ANZIAs present to engage and reward stakeholders from many industries. “Both auDA and InternetNZ operate for the benefit of our respective Internet communities, in the spirit of open, fair access for all users. The ANZIAs are a celebration of this motto, recognising entrants that may not identify as part of the ‘Internet industry’ but who still use the opportunities the Internet presents to improve the lives of all Australians and New Zealanders," says Mr Disspain.

In their first two years, the ANZIAs have recognised the online achievements of a tremendously diverse range of organisations, including CanTeen, The National Library of New Zealand, the NSW Rape Crisis Centre, Deaf Aotearoa New Zealand, Hector’s World Limited, Darwin City Council’s - GRIND Youth Initiative and RSPCA Queensland.

Entries will be accepted from 1 July to 31 August at 5.00pm AEST.

Winners will be announced at a gala dinner in Melbourne on 17 October.

The event will feature Keynote speeches from former Justice of the High Court of Australia, Justice Michael Kirby, AC, CMG and the Internet Society’s Vice President of Public Policy, Mr Markus Kummer.
