It’s All ‘On’ at MOTAT’s July holiday Experience
Windmills, solar panels and hand generators; these
school holidays MOTAT is getting energised and turning up
the power in its ‘ON’ Holiday Experience.
From 30 June – 15 July, visitors to MOTAT will step into a thrilling world of energy, learning that power can come from a range of surprising and mindboggling sources.
Kids can look forward to getting hands-on with a make and take windmill workshop, fascinating energy displays and a competition trail where you need to work as a team to solve the mystery word. They’ll also love exploring the Power Station that explains the types of energy we use in New Zealand and how they are created.
MOTAT Museum Director Jeremy Hubbard says the ‘ON’ Holiday Experience is a great way to get kids thinking about what makes energy happen.
“We’ve packaged the fundamentals of science into exciting games and fun activities so that kids will have plenty to keep them entertained and occupied over the school holiday break. We know lots of ‘light bulbs’ will turn on in the minds of our kids as they find out what really makes energy happen,” says Mr Hubbard.
Another highlight at MOTAT’s ‘ON’ Holiday Experience is the Fonterra Science Roadshow where visitors of all ages can have a hands-on experience with science and technology.
These school holidays, the Fonterra Science Roadshow is offering more exhibits than ever before to further develop MOTAT’s ‘ON’ themes of energy. There will be over 70 interactive exhibits such as a sonar sound energy system, bubbling liquid and laser beams.
“We are excited to have the Fonterra Science Roadshow on board to give a further insight and broaden kids’ perspectives on the thrilling world of science and energy. Each year the Fonterra Science Roadshow travels to schools all around the country but MOTAT is the only public domain that it visits so this is also a great chance for parents to share the fun with their kids,” says Mr Hubbard.
The Fonterra Science Roadshow will also be presenting three brand new live science shows every hour on the hour throughout the ‘ON’ Holiday Experience, with crafty experiments about physical and chemical changes and the aspects of the world we can’t see.
MOTAT visitors can enjoy the ‘ON’ Holiday Experience as part of their general admission fee to MOTAT. More details about MOTAT or the Fonterra Science Roadshow can be found at www.motat.org.nz or www.roadshow.org.nz
