Network summary for week ending 3 May 2015
Electricity
Our crews removed trees from power lines in Pt England during the week. No power supply was interrupted, but there was an outage caused by trees contacting lines in Takanini during the week.
Emergency services were in touch with our control room over a house fire in Henderson during the week, and we carried out an isolation of power to the address. There were seven other building fires during the week, in Auckland’s CBD, Henderson North, Avondale, Te Atatu South, Papakura, Whitford and in Warkworth. Vector was stood down from the CBD incident, but power had to be isolated for safety to the other events.
Gas
Emergency services advised us of a fire affecting a gas-fired hot water cylinder in Whakatane during the week. Our service provider attended and kept us informed of the situation. Customer supplies were fully restored.
A smell of gas was reported in Waikanae during the week. Our service provider isolated the damage.
Reports of third party damage to our gas network came in from Birkdale, Orewa, Rotorua, Kumeu, Whitford, Huntly and Cambridge during the week. Our crews attended, making the necessary repairs.
Projects
A refurbishment project at the Milford zone substation is nearing completion. Our crews have had dedicated access to the site on East Coast Road, with our control room rerouting supply from other substations for the duration of the four month project, minimising impact on the local area.
Improvements at the substation have included the upgrading and modernising of equipment, which will reinforce the electricity supply to the area.
