A changeable week ahead

A changeable week ahead

15th November

The band of rain over the North Island today will be slow to move off to the northeast of the country tomorrow. There is a possibility that rainfall amounts will exceed short-term warning criteria in some areas, so a Severe Weather Watch is in place for Waikato down to Taranaki, across to Tongariro National Park, Northland and eastern Bay of Plenty. A cooler southwesterly flow follows the rain.

Meanwhile in the south, a weak cold front brings strong southwesterly winds to the far south on Tuesday, and a few showers (punctuated with sunshine!) to most places as it travels quickly north, reaching the North Island on Tuesday afternoon.

Wednesday will see a fair amount of blue sky across the country. However, there will be a few showers, particularly in eastern and northern areas.

Thursday heralds the return of wet weather, as another front moves onto the country. Western and northern areas will receive rain or showers. However, southern and eastern areas will stay dry, which is bad news for farmers in already parched areas.
