Antarctica New Zealand calls for outreach proposals to demystify science
Antarctica New Zealand is seeking applications from enthused media, artists, teachers and writers who are eager to tell the story behind New Zealand's research into climate change in Antarctica.
Successful applicants will be granted a once in a lifetime opportunity to visit the frozen continent as a guest of the New Zealand Antarctic Programme.
"Now is your chance to be part a special group of people tasked with translating the importance of Antarctic research supported from Scott Base, into a language which makes sense to New Zealanders," says Antarctica New Zealand General Manager of Communications Jeanine Begg.
Antarctica New Zealand has supported world class scientific research in Antarctica and across the Southern Ocean for nearly 60 years. This makes New Zealand an experienced voice and leader in the international treaty system.
“As a Government agency, our role is to ensure that Antarctica’s environment continues to be protected, that scientists are supported to find the answers to complex scientific questions, and that science outcomes are communicated back to policy makers and the public,” says Ms Begg.
“Demystifying science through strong outreach and education is an essential part of our mandate.
“It’s a rare privilege to be invited to one of the most unique regions on earth, and to have the opportunity to immerse yourself in its story, science, history and grandeur. We are interested in fresh new ideas to communicate our research to a variety of people in a meaningful way.”
All proposals should align to Antarctica New Zealand's selection criteria which are firmly focussed on science communication, multifaceted outreach capability, clear measures of success and a strong digital presence.

Applications are open from today and close 5pm Sunday 10 January 2016.
