Antarctica New Zealand welcomes new Board members
Antarctica New Zealand welcomes Dr Helen Anderson, Sharon Hunter and Rob Morrison to their Board of Directors today.
These top strategic minds offer a wealth of experience which will add value to the strategic objectives of the New Zealand Government’s work in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean.
Anderson, Hunter and Morrison join Antarctica New Zealand at a time when Antarctic research, aimed at understanding what the impacts of a rapidly warming climate will have on the planet, includes deep field research to a scale which has not been undertaken in many years.
While we welcome new members to the Board, we also farewell three Directors who have each made significant contributions to the strategic direction of New Zealand’s role in Antarctica over the past several years.
Peter Beggs, Chief Executive of Antarctica New Zealand says, “For more than a decade, as a passionate businessman, environmentalist and Antarctican, Rob Fenwick’s contribution to the advancement of science and environmental best-practise in New Zealand has been exceptional.”
“It has been a privilege working with a man whose style of leadership is authentic and empowering.”
Rob was a driving force behind the launch of New Zealand Antarctic Research Institute (NZARI) in 2012 which aims to strengthen Antarctic research capacity in New Zealand through international collaboration on research projects. The organisation continues to thrive today attracting support from top agencies and philanthropy to support New Zealand-led climate change research in Antarctica.
Antarctica New Zealand also wishes well Tenby Powell and Dr Carolyn Burns, thanking them for their contribution over the past two terms.
