This week will be warm and sunny for most, with temperatures expected to get into the thirties for central and eastern New Zealand. However, an area of low pressure is expected to bring wet and windy weather to the North Island by Friday.

An area of high pressure will remain over the country for the next few days, resulting in blue skies and warm temperatures. “Parts of the lower North Island are likely to get into the thirties on Wednesday, including suburbs of Wellington,” commented meteorologist Emma Blades. “Central Otago looks set to get hot on Wednesday as well, with Thursday being the hot pick for the Canterbury region,” added Ms Blades.

An area of low pressure looks likely to bring warm, humid air from the across the Tasman Sea to the North Island on Friday. There is the potential for this system to generate strong northeasterlies and heavy falls for the northeast of the North Island.

Meanwhile, a front gradually moves up the South Island on Thursday and Friday bringing rain to the west.
