A change to more spring like weather

The weather over New Zealand will change to a more spring like pattern late this week, as two low pressure systems hit the country in quick succession, bringing strong winds and rain to many areason Friday and the weekend. “These fast moving weather systems that bring changeable weather are typical of spring,” commented MetService Meteorologist Stephen Glassey.

In the more immediate future, a weakening front is moving onto the South Island today and will become slow moving over the North Island from Tuesday. Although this front will bring some rain to parts of the country as it moves north (mostly in western areas), it is not expected to generate any severe weather. “It’s not until Friday that we start seeing strong winds affecting much of New Zealand as the first of the low pressure systems moves over from the Tasman Sea. Until then, the weather isn’t looking particularly exciting,” said Glassey.

Although the weather is expected to deteriorate at the end of the week, temperatures are not expected to drop significantly. Temperatures across the country have returned to normal for this time of year after last week’s cold snap.
