Elected Vice President
Morrie Chandler ONZM has been elected vice-president of the FIA, the international body that controls motorsport and motoring. He is one of seven vice-presidents covering the range of FIA activities.
This is the highest honour bestowed on a New Zealand motorsport official and is a reflection of the work Morrie has done over the years in both the domestic and international rally scene.
His position as president of the FIA's World Rally Championship Commission has also been reconfirmed by the General Assembly of the FIA, currently meeting in Barcelona.
Morrie was president of MotorSport New Zealand for 22 years and until recently was chairman of Rally of New Zealand, guiding the event to its position as New Zealand's only international sporting championship to be contested here annually. Morrie's current position with MotorSport New Zealand is as President D'Honneur.
Steven Kennedy, president of MotorSport New Zealand has been re-elected to the World Touring Car Commission.
