After a recent lay-off due to an Achilles tendon strain former World Mountain Running champion and New Zealand Sportswoman of the Year Kate McIlroy is back in training in preparation for a very busy race schedule in 2007. McIlroy has been back running for eight weeks now and is feeling positive about the upcoming track season.
“While injuries are always frustrating I am very happy with the progress I have made and am looking forward to competing on the European track circuit in preparation for the World Athletics Championships in August,” said McIlroy.
Kate has already qualified for the World Championships in her event, the 3000 metre steeplechase. She is planning to compete on the track in either China or Japan at the end of April ahead of travelling to Europe to compete on the Grand Prix circuit for two months. She will then head to Osaka, Japan for the World Championships which are to be held between 24 August and the first week of September.
“It is going to be a very busy year for me and I am very excited at the prospect of being able to compete consistently at the highest level in preparation for the World Champs,” concluded McIlroy.
