At New
Zealand Superbike Champs
Christchurch based Triple R Superbike Team came away from the final round of the 2009 Castrol Power 1 New Zealand Superbike Championships at Pukekohe Park, just south of Auckland over the weekend, with a large haul of Silverware
Australia’s Robbie
Bugden clinched his third consecutive New Zealand Superbike
title on his Triple R Suzuki GSXR1000.
The 28 year-old
dominated his opposition, winning both Superbike races on
his Radio Sport supported Suzuki. In doing so he collected
both the New Zealand Superbike Tourist Trophy and the Geoff
Perry Memorial Trophy.
“It is fantastic to win the championship for a third time, I really like coming to race in New Zealand, I have a lot of very good friends here now,” said Bugden after racing
In the 600 Sports Production class, the “TEAM” picked up a second and a third in the Championship
Team-mates James Smith and
Dennis Charlett, both from Christchurch, have been battling
all season with Yamaha’s young Australian Gareth
Jones.
Charlett the defending Champion had a disastrous
round one and has been playing catch up ever since. The pair
have always had their “King Tony Tools” GSXR 600s right
in contention. Over the weekend Charlett picked up two
thirds, while James Smith took two fourths, giving them
third and second respectively in the Championship
“The Triple R Superbike Team is very happy with the 2009 Championships and will now begin preparing for 2010,” said Team owner Peter Fenton after racing.
