TAB releases rugby odds
After finishing as top qualifier, 2008 and 2009 Mead's Cup Champions Wanganui have opened as the TAB favourite ($2.50) to complete an unprecedented third consecutive title. 2007 Mead's Cup and 2009 Lochore Cup Champions, North Otago, have opened as 2nd favourite at $3.50, with Mid Canterbury and Poverty Bay at $4.00 and $5.00 respectively. After registering an impressive score of 116 against Wooden Spoon favourites, East Coast, in the first round and have attracted significant levels of punter interest since, being backed in from their opening price of $5.00. Outsiders South Canterbury ($20.00) and Thames Valley ($30.00) are still considered a chance by some, with Thames Valley making headlines after some punters took advantage of their opening price of $300.00.

Wairarapa Bush, the 2006 Meads Cup Champions, will
commence their bid to win the cup named after their most
famous export, Sir Brian Lochore, as the TAB favourite at
$2.75. The boys from Masterton and Pahiatua, who have never
won the Lochore Cup, had a slow start to the Heartland
Championship but are deserved favourites after qualifying
behind North Otago and Poverty Bay, whom are among the
front-runners in Heartland Rugby's top tier. Horowhenua
Kapiti and King Country are at $3.50 and $4.50 respectively
with King Country providing their extraordinarily large
punter following another opportunity to cash in after a
disappointing effort in the pool stages. West Coast ($5.00)
and Buller ($8.00) make up the other genuine title
contenders, with odds of $150.00 available for long shots
East Coast.
