Sport Wellington Announces the Logan Brown Coach of the Month for October 2011
Sport Wellington is pleased to announce the winner of the Logan Brown Coach monthly awards for October 2011:
Marcus Howie (Wairarapa Bush Rugby Union)
Marcus is the coach of the Wairarapa Bush U14 representative rugby team. He receives this award for his initiative in developing an U14 representative programme and a player development programme for this age group in the Wairarapa. Marcus’s dedication and enthusiasm for the sport extended to organising the venues, transport, sponsorship and fundraising activities for the team. He also organized pre representative season practice games involving many other provinces in the Hurricanes region, allowing more children the opportunity to experience playing rugby at this level.
Marcus’s coaching also extends to coaching at Taratahi College and he is described as a passionate supporter of Wairarapa Bush rugby and represents all that is good about grassroots volunteers.
Marcus will receive a voucher for a Logan Brown Bistro lunch for two with wine tasting options. Logan Brown Restaurant is synonymous with excellence and service; values which align closely with the positive aspects of volunteering and coaching.
Sport Wellington’s Community Coaching Advisor Mark Watson says ‘Marcus has created another opportunity for youth to develop their skills as they progress along their sporting pathway. It is fitting that after all the service he has given to the community that he now gets to experience quality fare and service at Logan Brown.’’
Sport Wellington Announces the Logan Brown Volunteer of the Month for October 2011
Sport Wellington is pleased to announce the winner of the Logan Brown Volunteer monthly awards for October 2011:
Amanda Santos (mountain biking)
Amanda has organized beginner mountain bike rides, every single Saturday for the last 3 years. She is extremely warm and friendly to anyone who joins the group and has a real passion for mountain biking.
Amanda is extremely accommodating to new mountain bikers, often these are people new to the sport that would get left behind by most other biking groups, teaching them bike safety and hints and tips. She takes great pride in taking them in as beginners and moving them on to the intermediate stage, connecting them to one of the various mountain biking clubs in the region.
Every Thursday Amanda sends out an email with the Saturday route to be taken and her rides are advertised on the internet and supported by a wide range of people in the region who support her amazing volunteer efforts. Through such initiatives she is well known in the community, as is her legendary story telling on the rides.
Recently stepping down as CEO of an IT company has allowed Amanda the time to re-focus her energies over the next few months. Without the passion, enthusiasm and hard work she puts in, many people in our region would be regularly looking at their bikes in the garage and not using them!
Sport Wellington’s Sport Development Advisor Jamie Milne says “the sheer number of nominations submitted supporting Amanda was amazing, all with positive and inspiring stories of her dedication to mountain biking and to those in the Wellington region getting started in the sport.
For over three years regardless of the weather Amanda is out there each Saturday, Amanda ensures safety is maintained and providing tips for all new mountain bikers and new members are always made welcome. She cares passionately for the sport, the benefits of mountain biking and the Wellington Region, what an inspiring volunteer in sport”.
Sport Wellington encourages all Wellington and Wairarapa sports clubs, schools and regional sporting organisations to nominate their coaches and volunteers for this honour by downloading a nomination form at: http://www.sportwellington.org.nz/awards/.
