1. (U) Poloff spoke with Czech MFA Director of the UN
Department Jan Kara on August 7 to update information
previously reported on Czech high-level attendance at UNGA
(Ref A). Kara said the Czechs have not finalized their plans,
but provided the following information:
A. Head of State
President Vaclav Klaus will not/not attend.
B. Head of Government
Prime Minister Jiri Paroubek will not/not attend.
C. Foreign Minister
The Foreign Minister may attend, although it is not known
whether it will be the current Foreign Minister, Cyril
Svoboda, or a newly appointed Foreign Minister.
-- The arrival and departure dates of the Foreign Minister
are not yet known. However, he is expected to attend the
opening session of "EU Week" on September 19. The Foreign
Minister will likely stay for the week, or possibly longer.
-- If the Foreign Minister attends, he may bring his spouse.
-- Interpretation will not/not be required.
D. VIPs
The following VIPs are expected to attend:
Martin Povejsil, MFA Political Director.
-- The arrival and departure dates of Mr. Povejsil are not
yet known. However, he will likely travel with the Foreign
Minister.
-- He is unlikely to be accompanied by his spouse.
-- Interpretation will not/not be required.
Deputy Foreign Minister Tomas Pojar may attend.
-- The arrival and departure dates of Deputy FM Pojar are not
yet known. However, he plans to attend the high-level
meetings on Migration and Development, and Least Developed
Countries. Therefore, he will likely arrive before September
17 and remain in New York during EU Week.
-- He is unlikely to be accompanied by his spouse.
-- Interpretation will not/not be required.
Deputy Minister for Labor and Social Affairs Cestmir Sajda
may attend.
-- The arrival and departure dates of Deputy Minister Sajda
are not yet known. However, he plans to attend the high-level
meetings on Migration and Development, and Least Developed
Countries. Therefore, he will likely arrive before September
17 and remain in New York during EU Week.
-- He is unlikely to be accompanied by his spouse.
-- Interpretation will not/not be required.
E. Foreign Ministry Official responsible for IO affairs
MFA Director of Department of United Nations Jan Kara will
attend.
-- The arrival and departure dates of Mr. Kara are not yet
known. However, he will likely travel with the Foreign
Minister.
-- Mr. Kara will not/not be accompanied by his spouse.
-- Interpretation will not/not be required.
