PolOff delivered ref b demarche to Maldives Ministry of
Foreign Affairs Assistant Director for UN Affairs Ahmed
Shiaan on September 12. Shiaan explained that the Government
of Maldives has not yet made a final decision on which CAT
candidates to support. However, he noted the excellent
relations between the governments of Maldives and the U.S.
and assured PolOff that the GORM would "favorably consider"
the U.S. candidate.
