SUBJECT: YES ON COMMISSION ON NARCOTIC DRUGS PROPOSAL

REF: SECSTATE 15387

1. Australia fully supports moving phenylacetic acid from
Table II to Table I of the Annex of Chemicals to the 1988 UN
Convention. The Department of Health and Aging's Acting
Director for Treaty Compliance Darren Jones told us that
Australia is will vote in favor of the change. Both the
import and export of Phenylacetic acid is currently regulated
meaning that no major reforms would be needed to increase
controls on the drug.
