SUBJECT: Uruguay: Additional Information on Child Labor and Forced
Labor

REF: MONTEVIDEO 86; 09 STATE 131995

1. Post provides missing information from Ref A to complete the
request for information on child and forced labor in Uruguay.

2G) Continual Progress

-------------------------------

2. The incidence of child labor in Uruguay is relatively low, and
the GOU sustained its efforts to monitor, investigate and prosecute
suspected offenders. In the area of trafficking of persons and use
of minors in illicit activity, the creation of the Specialized
Courts for Organized Crime is leading to the formation of more
effective investigation and prosecution, though to this point there
has been limited increase in cases involving minors. The awareness
of the existence of exploitative child labor is increasing, and
funding for campaigns and inspections has remained constant.
Nevertheless, limited resources continue to restrict authorities'
efforts to fully combat exploitative child labor.
