Ialibu To Have Access To Fm Radio, Em Tv

PORT MORESBY: The 70.8m high repeater tower currently being constructed in the heart of Ialibu township will be the tallest in Papua New Guinea and stands to open up parts of the Southern Highlands province to the rest of the country when it is completed shortly, Leblanc Communications Site Manager, Siri Loko revealed yesterday, the National reports.

Loko said the installation of two new antenna dishes on top of the tower would enable the people of Ialibu, Imbongu, and other districts of the Southern Highlands to receive the three FM radio channels and EM TV.

The new repeater tower is part of a major upgrading of telecommunications systems between Port Moresby and the PNG highlands, a project that was awarded to Leblanc Communications by Telikom PNG.

According to Loko the project which is funded by AusAID has so far seen some significant upgrading work done on the repeater station at Mt Demo Demo at Milne Bay, Mt Kaguma, Mt Weather Holes, Mt Orea Toa, Mt Bore Goro and Mt Yule all in the Central Province and Mt Farence, Mt Kapamunga and Mt Purari in the Gulf Province.

Loko said Telikom PNG is undertaking this major project to upgrade the entire existing communication system to enable all automatic telling machines (ATM), telephone lines, fax lines and all other data base lines to function more effectively between Port Moresby and the Highlands.
