2 Australian Peacekeepers Injured In Accident

TWO AUSTRALIAN PEACEKEEPERS INJURED IN VEHICLE ACCIDENT

Two Australian soldiers serving with UNTAET forces in East Timor were injured yesterday evening when the Land Rover in which they were travelling rolled.

The accident occurred at 7.10 pm. East Timor time between Memo and Maliana, near the West Timor Border.

Following first aid at the scene both soldiers were taken to Maliana where they were stabilised by a medical team before being airlifted by an Australian Army Black Hawk helicopter to the UN hospital in Dili.

One soldier sustained hip injuries while the other received unspecified head injuries. Both men are reported as being in a stable condition.

Next of kin have been notified
