Regime's Minister embarrassed by Samanunu delay
The regime's interim Foreign Affairs minister is embarrassed by the delay in the decision on Adi Samanunu Talakuli Cakobau.
Samanunu, a high chief and civil servant, and Fiji's Ambassador to Malaysia, was seen in the Parliament Complex fraternising with the terrorists at the height of the hostage crisis. She was also one of terrorist George Speight's nominees to be the Prime Minister.
Today's Fiji Times quotes Interim foreign minister Kaliopate Tavola as saying: "The issue has been dragging on too long and does not look nice. We need to have this matter resolved quickly".
Meanwhile, information has been received that the regime does not want to deal with the case swiftly. One source says that interim regime Prime Minister, under whom the Public Service Commission falls, does not want to be seen to be involved in disciplining or sacking a high chief. The source stated that Qarase will want the case to be delayed as long as possible with the hope that he may not have to deal with the matter.
So far not a single chief involved with the terrorists has been charged.
Moreover, so far not a single terrorist has been convicted. Nor has a single civil servant involved with the terrorist been disciplined or sacked. Three civil servants had rejected the civil service by abandoning their posts.
