Gush Shalom: Policy Of Force Failed - International Observers Now!
After the terrorist attack in Jerusalem Gush Shalom once more calls for international observers; the cycle of revenge upon revenge and preventive strikes which have to be revenged can perhaps still be stopped before putting the whole region aflame.
Today’s suicide bombing in Jerusalem has proven, in a painful and terrible manner, that the policy of force has failed, says Gush Shalom (The Israeli Peace Bloc). It was proven, for all to see, that the string of ‘liquidations’ carried out by the government of Israel in the past weeks have not put an end to terrorism. On the contrary, these ‘liquidations’ but further inflamed the frustrations and hatred on the Palestinian side.
More brutal acts of force, on which the Sharon Government is likely to decide today, will have the very same result, and the cycle of bloodshed will continue to claim more and more victims. The occupation is killing us all. Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip is the root cause of the violence and hatred.
As long as the occupation continues, bloodshed will continue and increase. Gush Shalom (the Israeli Peace Bloc), calls upon the United States and the other permanent members of the UN Security Council, to cease their hesitations for which a price is exacted in human lives, and with no further delay dispatch an international observer force to the Occupied Territories, in order to enforce a cease-fire.
That is the only way to stop the escalation and prevent an all-out war which may set the whole region aflame.
