Australian CDF Welcomes New Leadership Team

CDF WELCOMES NEW LEADERSHIP TEAM
The Chief of the Defence Force, Admiral Chris Barrie AC, today offered his personal congratulations to Lieutenant General Peter Cosgrove AC MC on his appointment as the new Chief of the Defence Force (CDF).
Admiral Barrie will retire as CDF on 3 July this year after serving for more than 41 years in the Royal Australian Navy.
In addition to General Cosgrove's appointment, several new officers have also been appointed to the Defence leadership team. Rear Admiral Russ Shalders CSC will be appointed as the new Vice-Chief of the Defence Force, Rear Admiral Chris Ritchie AO as the new Chief of Navy, Major General Peter Leahy AM as the new Chief of Army.
Admiral Barrie said he was delighted by the strength and experience of the new leadership team.
"General Cosgrove and the new leadership team are well equipped and trained to meet the challenges that will confront the ADF in the future. This team has strong leadership credentials and I am sure that they will continue to deliver a strong and capable ADF of which the community will continue to be proud.
"These promotions acknowledge the outstanding contributions these officers have already made to the ADF. I am sure that they will continue to make even more significant contributions to the ADF in their new roles."
Admiral Barrie said it had been a particular honour to lead the Australian Defence Force as CDF during the last four years.
"During these years whenever the Defence Force has deployed, the professionalism of our people has stood out. It has been recognised by the Australian community and by other countries as second to none and I am proud of them all.
"I am also proud of the Defence family at work - whether our people wear a uniform, whether they support our armed services or whether they are families or partners of Defence personnel. I have the utmost respect for their dedication and commitment to the importance of our work and what it means to our country."
