Friends of Tibet: Uprising Day - March 10

Uprising Day is a significant day that commemorates the memory of 89,000 Tibetans who were killed in Lhasa in 1959.

Today China's continued occupation of Tibet, with the help of several hundred thousand troops, represents an ongoing violation of international law and of the fundamental rights of the Tibetan people to independence.

From 1949 to today:-

· over 1.2 million Tibetans have died as a result of Chinese
occupation

· 6000 monasteries have been destroyed

· abortions and sterilisation can be forced upon Tibetan women

· over 1000 political prisoners are being held

· 120,000 Tibetans are in exile

Friends of Tibet (N.Z.) will be marking Uprising Day with a rally outside the Chinese Embassy in Glenmore Street on Monday, 10 March from 7.30am - 9.00am. Please join us and pass this message on to others.
